Look magazine once challenged Ava Gardner to draw the attention of a Buckingham Palace guard towards herself (the guards were famously required to remain silent, motionless, & look straight ahead while on duty). Gardner circled him, cracked jokes, and performed all manner of dances, from the foxtrot to the waltz in front of him, but the guard successfully resisted the urge to acknowledge Gardner’s presence or charms, making himself a minor celebrity in the process.
